چکیده

A laser-driven photo-cathode electron gun capable of producing pulsed electron beams of 100 KeV with a duration of 35 ps was constructed as a continuing effort towards a high-brightness superconducting RF injector. Various species of photo-cathodes can be obtained either by ion implantation, CVD or ion enhanced deposition in the preparation chamber attached to the injector. A number of photo-cathodes were tested in the light of enhancing the compatibility with the Nb cavity. At the same period, two sets of China made Nb cavities were successfully constructed and tested. As the next step, a hybrid photo-injector, using a DC laser-driven electron gun and one (beta<1) plus three (beta=1) superconducting cavities operating under 2 K is to be constructed. The design of the hybrid injector and possible production of the polarised electron beam from it are also discussed.

Status of the Superconducting Rf Photo-injector Development*

A status report of the superconducting RF photo electron injector development at Forschungszentrum DresdenRossendorf (FZD) is given. The SRF gun project is a collaboration of BESSY, DESY, MBI and FZD and aims at the installation of a high average current CW photo injector at the ELBE superconducting electron linac. Main design parameters of the SRF gun are an electron energy of 9.5 MeV, a maxim...

Beam Based Monitoring of the Rf Photo Gun Stability at Pitz

The stability of the photo injector is a key issue for the successful operation of linac based free electron lasers. Several types of jitter can impact the stability of a laser driven RF gun. Fluctuations of the RF launch phase and the cathode laser energy have significant influence on the performance of a high brightness electron source. Bunch charge measurements are used to monitor the stabil...

Studies of Photo-emission and Field Emission in an Rf Photo-injector with a High Quantum Efficiency Photo-cathode

An 18 MeV electron photo-injector facility was constructed at Fermilab in collaboration with UCLA, INFNMilano, University of Rochester, and DESY. The photoinjector is now being operated in partnership with the Northern Illinois Center for Accelerator and Detector Development. The facility consists of an RF gun [1, 2] with a cesium telluride (Cs2Te) photo-cathode [3] excited by a pulsed ultra-vi...

Beam Test of a Superconducting Cavity for the Fermilab High-brightness Electron Photo-injector

An electron photo-injector facility has been constructed at Fermilab for the purpose of providing a 14–18 MeV electron beam with high charge per bunch (8 nC), short bunch length (1 mm RMS), and small transverse emittance [1]. The facility was used to commission a second-generation photo-cathode RF gun for the TeSLA Test Facility (TTF) Linac at DESY [2, 3]; in the future, the Fermilab electron b...

Photocathode Studies for the Spear3 Injector Rf Gun*

The electron gun for the SPEAR3 injector operates with a warm thermionic dispenser cathode immersed in a 1.5-cell RF structure. At each injection cycle the gun accelerates several thousand electron bunches up to ~3 MeV during a 2.5us rf pulse. The individual bunches are then compressed by an alpha magnet and a travellingwave chopper selects 3-5 bunches so they don’t cause beam loading to the li...
